In general the doctor of chiropractic works with muscular skeletal system and the nervous system. Healing by the body is predicated on an optimally functioning nervous system. One of the main functions of a chiropractor is to discover a dysfunction of this neuromuscular mechanism of the body called the subluxation. The chiropractor uses several types of manipulation to restore motion to the mechanism so the body can communicate with itself and heal itself. This is also referred to as allowing the innate intelligence to flow properly through the body.

Dr. Best takes this one step further with Applied Kinesiology which allows the doctor to tap into the body like a computer and find more disturbances in the nervous system which is effecting the proprioception of the body. Proprioception is the body's awareness of space and time and the awareness of what needs attention and healing. Restoring proper proprioception allows the body to heal much faster.

What is a subluxation?

The word “subluxation” comes from the Latin words meaning “to dislocate” (luxare) and “somewhat or slightly” (sub). A subluxation means a slight dislocation (misalignment) or biomechanical malfunctioning of the vertebrae (the bones of the spine). These disturbances may irritate nerve roots and the blood vessels which branch off from the spinal cord between each of the vertebrae. This irritation may cause pain and dysfunction in muscle, lymphatic and organ tissue, as well as neurologic imbalance in the normal body processes.

This subluxation may decrease the sensory information which is sent to the brain from areas affected by this nerve root, this is a key component in the body's ability to heal itself. In other words, if the brain does not know there is a problem then it may not start the process of healing.

What can cause a subluxation?

A fall, injury, sudden jar, trauma, or sometimes an inherited spinal weakness can displace a vertebra. Other causes include improper sleeping conditions or habits, poor posture, occupational hazards, incorrect lifting practices, obesity, lack of rest and exercise, and stress.

How is a subluxation corrected?

Doctors of Chiropractic are specialists in neuromusculoskeletal conditions. They are trained to restore the misaligned vertebrae to their proper position in the spinal column. They do this manually, utilizing the chiropractic procedure known as “spinal adjustment”.

Correcting the subluxation may be done through a variety of ways, including non-force, activator, respiratory corrections and the most commonly known manual adjustment. The adjustment, thrust or manual force helps restore the alignment and mobility of the vertebrae.

Depending on your condition and sensitivity to being adjusted Dr. Best may use one or a combination of adjustment procedures.

Does the Adjustment Hurt?

Under normal circumstances, chiropractic adjustments are painless. In cases of recent trauma, such as whiplash, mild discomfort may be experienced due to inflammation. Reactive muscles may spasm in some cases due to being stretched, Dr. Best uses neuromuscular stimulation to corrected these reactive muscles as they arise.

Is regular chiropractic care necessary?

Regular chiropractic care may be necessary to correct spinal subluxations to help maintain sound health and fitness. Your spine is under constant strain during waking hours. Improper lifting techniques, poor posture, accidents, falls and bumps, and other causes can contribute to spinal strain. Timely adjustments can help restore the neuromusculoskeletal integrity of the spine to normalize the bodily equilibrium and increase resistance.

Who should get chiropractic care?

Chiropractic patients range in years from birth to old age. Regardless of age, the vertebrae can become misaligned. For example, the birth process may cause trauma to the neck and spine. Left uncorrected, the vertebral subluxation may disturb the delicate spinal cord and nerves which control the youngster's muscles and organs. In some cases, an uncorrected subluxation may lead to a deformity of the spinal column. An early chiropractic checkup may detect many spinal problems while they are still easily correctable.

How will the chiropractic adjustment help me?

Chiropractic adjustments by themselves do not actually heal the body. When any of the 24 moveable spinal vertebrae become misaligned, a basic imbalance or disruption can occur in the nervous and blood vascular systems, which may contribute to stress in the body. Chiropractic adjustments help eliminate that imbalance or disruption so that the body can function at its true potential.

Does the adjustment have to make noise to be effective?

No, it is a common misconception that your joints must make a noise to be properly adjusted. However, more often than not when your vertebrae are adjusted, the smooth articular (joint) surfaces become separated, creating and then releasing a small vacuum, making a noise. This is the sound made when you crack your knuckles. Dr. Best is concerned with the position of your vertebrae, not with the noise that may occur.

Should I go to a chiropractor even if I feel fine?

Even if you feel fine, chiropractic care can help your body maintain its required level of health and fitness. Dr. Best can recommend a preventive spinal-care program and advise you on correct posture, dietary information and back exercises. Regular spinal checkups can help detect and prevent spinal stress due to subluxations.

PHYSICAL HEALING

Physical healing.

Physical healing can also take place on many levels and many different modalities.

Dr. Best began his journey using Reiki and then moved into deep tissue neuromuscular reeducation. After becoming proficient in those areas, Dr. Best became a chiropractor. During his education he also studied Applied Kinesiology (AK) through the ICAK, as he had been helped directly from AK with his own back injuries, having broken his back at the age of 16.

Dr. Best found chiropractic and AK to be the fastest way to help heal physical disturbances in the body. Dr. Best is not your standard chiropractor only manipulating the spine for 5 minutes. Dr. Best utilizes his tools with soft tissue, muscle integration and balancing the muscular and nervous systems. The idea is that muscles move bones and integrating AK with physical adjustments allows the body to maintain its corrections.

Chiropractic adjustments don't have to hurt; in fact they shouldn't. There is no need to create more physical stress when releasing the chronic stress from the body. In some cases people are highly sensitive to touch, in these cases Dr. Best uses low force adjusting techniques like Activator, DNFT and respiratory corrections.

NUTRITIONAL HEALING

Nutritional and chemical healing of the body.

Ignoring the nutritional component in healing can prolong the time frame in which the body heals.

Dr. Best is highly skilled at finding what nutritional deficiencies may be creating or holding on to dysfunction in the body. The cells of the body need the proper balance of nutrients and alkalinity to heal properly.

Certain foods can be inflammatory to your system and may be the underlying culprit to a chronic injury. Dr. Best utilizes and non-inflammatory diet in weight loss protocols, but also where chronic inflammation is a problem in a patient's recovery.

Dr. Best also offer Allcat testing for an in depth look at inflammatory foods.

ENERGETIC HEALING

Energy healing thru quantum physics.

I found the best illustration of what explains the process in many forms of energy healing was the movie "What The Bleep Do We Know" , as it shows how the mere observation and What the Bleep Do We Knowintent of observer influences the behavior of the atomic structures and molecules. Light was observed to change its nature from a wave to a particle form just by being observed.

In Emoto's work "Messages from Water" we see how the physical structure is water at the molecular level is changed to form different crystal patterns based on intention and the vibration that is carried in Love Crystalwords. This has huge relevance in our lives since we are more than 70% water and up to 90% water in the brain; in other words, if we are speaking degrading statements to ourselves we are affecting our own structure. Meditation and prayer also had a PROFOUND effect on the structure of the water.

When it comes to energy healing modalities some common sense still needs to be applied, because we are more than just 'light' energy bodies. We are also composed of denser frequencies of earth minerals which means that we may need healing with more than just 'light' energy, we may need minerals, herbs, medicine, surgery, exercise and chiropractic.
